Carlos Luna Exhibit

Carlos Luna is a contemporary Cuban-American painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist. Duality is a common theme in Cuban art, and Luna’s art embodies the internal struggles of an artist who has been uprooted. His art references the artistic traditions of the Cuban Havana School influenced by Wifredo Lam, the European Cubist paintings of French artist Fernand Léger, the storytelling of Mexican muralism and even the horror vacui of the Latin American baroque. This exhibition will feature over 50 works of this prolific artist, that include mixed media on wood, large-scale tapestries, and works on paper. General admission is always free. Opening reception is Thursday, June 1, 5-7PM, free for members, $5 for non-members.

Katie Harper Exhibit

For the past 25 years, Harper’s commercial graphic design work has informed her fine art, and vice versa. This retrospective exhibition will explore the ways that design concepts and production methods, both old and new, influence fine art, especially with regard to technique. It will include explorations into photography and printmaking, as well as award-winning letterpress and book arts.

General admission is always free. Opening reception is Thursday, June 1, 5-7PM, free for members, $5 for non-members.

Free Prostate Cancer Screenings

Free prostate exams for men 45-70. Exams take roughly 15 minutes. Held in partnership with with the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation, Cooper Clinic, and UAMS-West, Area Health Education Center. Call to make an appointment.

Pirate Party and Storytime

Come walk the plank at the Miller Branch Library! In celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day, we will be hosting a special pirate storytime! This free program will feature exciting pirate stories and silly pirate songs, followed by pirate-themed crafts, games, and snacks.

 

2017 Fort Smith Cox Community Concert feat. Mark Chesnutt

Country music Platinum recording artist Mark Chesnutt is set to headline the Cox Community Concert with special guests Shooter Jennings and Cody Canada & The Departed at the Riverfront Park in Fort Smith Friday, Sept. 15. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the music starts at 6:00 p.m. Twelve thousand free tickets are now available at any Arkansas Cox Solution Store.

Tickets are first come, first served and are complimentary with the donation of two non-perishable food items per ticket; limit of four tickets at the time of the request. Tickets are required for entry into the concert the exception of children ages three and under. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the performance as no seating will be provided. No food or drinks from outside the gate will be allowed on the premises. 

Food donations will benefit the River Valley Regional Foodbank. As part of September’s National Hunger Awareness Campaign, our goal is to deliver more than 12,000 pounds of food to the regional food banks through our Cox Community Concert food drives. 

The Cox Community Concert directly supports Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubs and Mercy Foundation of Fort Smith. The nonprofit partners will split all proceeds from the sale of food and beverages inside the concert venue, and 100 percent of the money raised will stay in the Fort Smith area to directly support local programs and needs.

Diamond Dance
