Carlos Luna Exhibit

Carlos Luna is a contemporary Cuban-American painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist. Duality is a common theme in Cuban art, and Luna’s art embodies the internal struggles of an artist who has been uprooted. His art references the artistic traditions of the Cuban Havana School influenced by Wifredo Lam, the European Cubist paintings of French artist Fernand Léger, the storytelling of Mexican muralism and even the horror vacui of the Latin American baroque. This exhibition will feature over 50 works of this prolific artist, that include mixed media on wood, large-scale tapestries, and works on paper. General admission is always free. Opening reception is Thursday, June 1, 5-7PM, free for members, $5 for non-members.

Katie Harper Exhibit

For the past 25 years, Harper’s commercial graphic design work has informed her fine art, and vice versa. This retrospective exhibition will explore the ways that design concepts and production methods, both old and new, influence fine art, especially with regard to technique. It will include explorations into photography and printmaking, as well as award-winning letterpress and book arts.

General admission is always free. Opening reception is Thursday, June 1, 5-7PM, free for members, $5 for non-members.

Doing Business with the Government - an Information and Resource Sharing Session

The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center is teaming up with the Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, and SCORE to bring “Doing Business with the Government, an Information and Resource Sharing Session” to the Fort Smith Public Library from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 18.

Are you a small business interested in doing business with the government? Are you interested in learning about government certifications, including the AR minority-owned business certification?

Join us to learn how state organizations can assist you with the steps necessary to work with the government.

Walk A Mile in Her Shoes

The Women's Crisis Services of Leflore County is hosting a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event Friday, August 18, downtown Poteau, Oklahoma. The Walk benefits Women's Crisis Services non-profit agency which provides services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. It is also a prelude to the shelter's largest fundraiser, Brave the Mud Run, to be held Saturday, August 19, at the Leflore County Fairgrounds. Early packet pick-up will take place at the Walk. Men in the community will walk a mile in high heels to help shed light on the importance social issues of domestic and sexual abuse to women and children. There will be live music and a cookout for a fun-filled evening.

The United States Navy Band Cruisers Concert

Alma is one of only 14 cities in the country chosen to host a performance by the U.S. Navy Band. As the Navy’s premier popular music group, the Cruisers feature eight of the Navy’s most dynamic performers. Their versatility provides them the capability to play multiple genres of music, ranging from rhythm and blues, pop, classic rock, adult contemporary and jazz standards, as well as original material. This elite group has engaged and excited audiences of all ages throughout the U.S. and abroad with world-class musicianship and high-energy, fun-filled performances.
