Authors in the Afternoon featuring Wayne Hancock

Fort Smith author Wayne Hancock will make a special appearance at the Fort Smith Public Library to promote and sign copies of his recently released book; The History of Retailing. Retailing has changed dramatically since the first F.W. Woolworth store opened in New York in 1879. Read about how Walmart evolved from a small Ben Franklin store to the largest retailer in the world, as well as the history of hundreds of other retail companies in this comprehensive history.

A native of Missouri, Wayne Hancock now lives in Arkansas where the 90-year-old author writes and publishes books. He is a WWII veteran, and a 30-year veteran of the retail business. He is also founder and president of two book publishing companies, Hancock Press and Papertown Publishing, which are now actively managed by his daughter, K.C. Shay.

That Thursday Night Thing- A Capote Christmas

The Miller Branch Library invites you to an enchanting evening with their annual holiday program; That Thursday Night Thing featuring two of Truman Capote's Christmas stories.

Retired Miller Branch Library Manager Anita Paddock will get the evening started with her reading of A Christmas Memory. After a brief intermission featuring refreshments, longtime performer with the Fort Smith Little Theater Brad Kidder will follow up with One Christmas.

Anita is not only a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is also the author of the true crime books Blind Rage amd Closing Time. Brad, who has been married for 61 years, is a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His also an army veteran, served on the first Fort Smith Board of Directoes, and was delegate to the 1969-1970 Arkansas Constitutional Convention.
