Discover Columbus' Ships

Date: Friday, November 10, 2017 to Sunday, November 19, 2017

Welcome to The Columbus Foundation and our two Columbus replica ships - our original Niña, the most historically accurate replica of a Columbus Ship ever built, and our newer Pinta.

Both The Niña and Pinta will be touring together as a new and enhanced ‘sailing museum’, for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world.

The Columbus Foundation receives no funds from government agencies or private foundations.

We are supported entirely by the fees paid to tour the ships. 

Tour Details:

  • You can book a tour anytime from 9am-6pm on days the ships are in port.
  • Each group has a tour guide assigned to them.
  • Each tour will last an average of 30 minutes, with time split between The Nina and Pinta.
  • Groups of 15 or more receive a group rate of $5 per person.
  • Maximum number of people allowed in a 30 minute time slot is 100.
  • (If your number goes over 100, you will need to book an additional 30-minute time slot.)
  • You will receive a phone confirmation, usually within 24 hours of submitting your tour request.

The Odd Couple (female version) @ Fort Smith Little Theatre

Synopsis:

Unger and Madison are at it again – but with a twist. In Neil Simon’s female version of his comic classic, we follow the lives of Olive Madison, a slobbish divorcee, and Florence Unger, a stickler for neatness, as they clash and crash into hilarity. Simon always entertains and never disappoints.

Night Court: United States vs Belle and Sam Starr

Date: Thursday, November 16, 2017 to Saturday, November 18, 2017
Time: 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Location: Fort Smith National Historic Site 301 Parker Avenue Fort Smith,

Fort Smith National Historic Site staff and volunteers will be presenting a special 3 NIGHT EVENT of the larceny charge of none of other than the 'Bandit Queen' herself! In 1883 Belle and Sam Starr are both tried for larceny for the theft of a neighbor's horse. Testimony differs, old angers come to light, and threats are made. If found guilty, they both could face a year in prison. You be the jury and then a discussion will follow! The programs will begin at 7:00pm on November 16th and 17th and at 6:00pm on the 18th. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of visitor center and are $7 each. The visitor center is open 9-5 seven days a week!

Welcome to the Fort Smith Farmers Market, where our commitment to fresh, locally grown produce and handmade goods has helped the Arkansas River Valley grow into a healthier and greener community with an emphasis on shopping local.

Since 2003, the market has offered the finest in locally produced vegetables, fruits, flowers, plants, meats, baked goods, honey, eggs, jams, juried crafts, and fine art from a 90 mile radius of Fort Smith. 

We Are Open Year Round In Historic Downtown Fort Smith located at the corner of North 2nd Street & Garrison Avenue

Each market day is a feast for the senses. We invite you to come sample the bountiful cornucopia of produce our area provides. 

The Saturday market is alive with street performers, local musicians, community organizations, tourists and locals alike. As many as 90 vendors set up each week in beautiful historic downtown Fort Smith and represent the diversity of the area. 

There is plenty of parking nearby, as well as handicapped parking on site. We gladly accept SNAP/EBT Cards on Saturday’s ONLY. 

We are honored to bring the freshest produce & the best handmade products to everyone in The River Valley. Make plans to stop by this week and see what’s new, we look forward to seeing you!

Cranksgiving NWA

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels. Part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. All you need is a bike, a bag, and a lock! As a grass roots event, Cranksgiving allows the cycling community to give back to Northwest Arkansas. Navigate the streets of Northwest Arkansas and the aisles of grocery stores searching for specific food items. Once you've found them and made your way through the checkout lines to the finish line, all of your food will be donated to a local food pantry. So bring your bike, a bag, and let's have some fun while we give back to our community.

The Reaping: A Hunger Games Thanksgiving

Announcing the 76th annual Hunger Games! Teens 13-18 years old are invited to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Main Library with a screening of The Hunger Games (PG), Capitol approved snacks, and games! "Tributes" are encouraged to bring canned or other non-perishable food items for the Teen Food Drive during "The Reaping". For each food item brought, tributes will earn an entry in a prize drawing! All donations will go to the Community Cleaning House. Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

The Doctor is In

Dr. Michael Linimon of Fort Smith organized a new exhibit at the Fort Smith Museum of History featuring optometry equipment from the late 19th century through the 1970s. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, November 18, 2:00-4:00 pm. 

The collection was acquired in 1968 when Dr. Linimon returned from Vietnam and purchased the practice from Dr. William Wood of Fort Smith. Dr. Wood first practiced in an office in the Boston Store in the 1930s and later in an office in First National Bank on Garrison Avenue. The 19th century equipment belonged to Dr. J. H. Chapman, Ophthalmologist. Dr. Linimon will offer programs for students and tour groups.

The opening reception is included with museum admission: $7 adults; $5 veterans and military; $2 children; under age 6 are free.
